Just wanted to do a quick post before heading to Brass Rep Class.
The Department of Music survived a rather tense summer facing an uncertain future. New pressures from university administration, budget cutbacks, faculty turnover, etc. all made for a somewhat tumultuous summer. But, I am happy that we are back and pushing forward toward the future.
Our faculty complement is smaller this year - 7 full-time and 2 part-time. We were not given our temporary voice…

Thankfully for all education entities across the state, a PA budget proposal has been agreed upon, and the 50%+ cuts to education proposed by Governor Tom Corbett have been dropped to less than 20%. However, a 20% cut in anyone's budget is significant, and the loss in revenue must be made up, either through cuts, increased revenues, or both (sound familiar?)
All of the 14 PASSHE universities have targeted cuts and "efficiencies" that can be implemented for the upcoming year…
